I was hired to handle the colors for a pitch called, “Trauma” written by Curt Pires and drawn by Viktor Bogdanovic. I was immediately impressed with the concept and lineart, so of course I took the gig. I believe the plan is to start pitching it at Emerald City ComiCon in late March. I’ve been cleared to show a few pages though, so here are pages 3 and 5.

Ron Randall, an artist I’ve worked with over the years, asked me to color his contribution to the 2012 Emerald City ComiCon’s Monsters & Dames charity art book. It’s monsters…and dames! How could I resist? While you’re at it, head on over to his site where he’s running the whole Trekker series (originally published by Dark Horse, I believe) a page at a time featuring the daring dame of this image, Mercy St. Clair. The over sized 36 page issue of Grimm Fairy Tales 2011 Special Edition came out on December 7th. This book was a huge accomplishment for me. Firstly, it was my first solo job where I did every page of colors. Second, I did it in just of two weeks–my best production speed to date. And last, but most importantly, I feel it is some of my best work and a project where I’m finally starting to develop my own style and work method. So far I’ve been using mostly techniques gained from working for Hi-Fi, but now I’m getting back to my fine art/oil painting roots and exploring how to incorporate those into the commercial needs of a published book. I’m currently coloring Grimm Fairy Tales #67 and taking them even farther. My goal is to get to a point of doing fully painted work at a speed that allows a two week production schedule. I’m getting closer.
I’ve also updated my Coloring Samples page to showcase some of my favorite pieces from the last month. I’m supposed to get lineart any day now for another Zenescope book, but I had this sitting on my HD pre-flatted and wanted to try out a few techniques for skin tones and surfaces, so I did this yesterday. Here is some from Grimm Fairy Tales: Myths & Legends #9 that came out recently.
Been a very busy few weeks for me which put me behind in my submission samples prepping. New ones are up in my Coloring Samples gallery. Also, I just turned in the last page of Sinbad #3 for Zenescope this morning. By far my best work and I can’t wait to share some of it when it hits the stands. In the meantime, Eternal Descent #7 came out last week. I did pages 8, 9, 13, 17-20. Didn’t get credit in the book though. Oh-well. Here are a few of them.
